Content Conversion Technology
ELearning content is a specialized and complicated form of digital media. It is interactive, involves complex animation and branching logic, and must exchange data with learning management systems. Multiple learning modalities are addressed through the inclusion of synchronized audio, video and text, and navigation and look and feel can significantly impact the effectiveness of the learning experience.
Many organizations involved in eLearning content conversion have created scripts that extract text and media files and put them into a Flash or HTML templates. To achieve more significant economies of scale it is necessary to deconstruct the internal logic of the original content as well. Eduworks has developed in-house technologies to do just that.
Our deconstruction techniques apply to assessments, animations, simulations, navigation and branching. The output is a format-free representation of the dynamic content that we then can publish into multiple formats. Our preference is for formats based on open standards or that can be maintained using widely available tools, but our process can be configured for any customer request.
The advantages of our approach do not stop at automation. We are fanatical about quality and maintainability of the output. We produce high fidelity replicas of the original content with updated media formats. To the learner, they are identical to the originals except that they work again. Under the hood, however, we have separated presentation and navigation from content and LMS reporting. This means that the look and feel and other properties can be changed in the future with little or no alteration of the underlying content. Our customers greatly appreciate this when it is time to localize the content or make changes to it, and they enjoy the cost savings that we can pass on to them.
