- Congratulations! You
should have a diskette with two folders - TUTORIAL and MINICOURSE - loaded
into the A drive.
To check your copy of
the tutorial, navigate to the TUTORIAL folder on your diskette and click on
index.html. Remember
- press Windows (lower left between CTRL and ALT) plus "E" to bring
up Windows Explorer.
- AUTHOR AND SAVE YOUR
OWN LEARNING OBJECT: There
are three ways to do this. It is important that you save your learning object
exactly as indicated.
- You can do nothing.
There is a default third learning object already in place.
Go on to step 3 or 4.
- You can use any authoring
tool that produces HTML, for example Word (using "save as HTML"),
create a single HTML page, and save it in your
MINICOURSE/MYHALLOWEEN folder as index.html. If you create a
Web site, save the root folder as MINICOURSE/MYHALLOWEEN and make sure the
entry point is index.html. Do not be afraid to rename (or overwrite) the
existing MYHALLOWEEN folder or existing index.html file in it.
- The really cool way
(that gets full marks) is to use a learning content authoring tool. Macromedia,
and Saba are some of the tools that will be available
in the lab. Some might be available only at stations marked with pumpkins.
Click on the above links for some additional instructions.Make
sure that you save your learning object as the folder MINICOURSE\MYHALLOWEEN
with entry point index.html. Do
not be afraid to rename (or overwrite) the existing MYHALLOWEEN folder or
existing index.htm file in it.
- (Optional) The imsmanifest.xml
file in your MINCOURSE folder tells an LMS what learning objects to deliver
in what order and also contains information about each learning objects. If
you want to see or edit the manifest, right-click on the file imsmanifest.xml
in the MINICOURSE folder and open with notepad or wordpad. If you just
click on it, it may open in an application that you do not how to use as an
editor.
- ZIP IT UP. Now
you HAVE to navigate using windows explorer. Press Windows-E, navigate to
A:, right-click on the folder MINICOURSE and choose "compress to mincourse.zip".
If you have any
difficulty or feel uncomfortable about this step, make sure that you do the
third and final part when some advisors are present and ask for help making
the zip archive.
- You have completed part
II of Learning Object Trick or Treat and are ready to proceed
to the third and final part.
